Monique Howat
Confident Girls! is a program to help young women develop their confidence and boost their self-esteem before they reach adulthood. It teaches teens problem-solving strategies, easy ways to make important decisions, personal boundaries and taking control of their lives.
The idea for Confident Girls! came from Monique Howat's personal experience of building her own self-esteem as a child. She always enjoyed inspiring people and made several attempts to do so, such as a motivational tape for teens and single women. But her desire to do this particular program crystallized when her fourteen-year-old niece committed suicide.
The Confident Girls! workbook is over 65 pages of inspiration and motivation designed to help girls age 7 through 11. It's designed so that girls can walk a parent through the twenty day program with them. Monique also offers five week classes for Confident Teens!, one on one private tutoring of the five week course (in the home, on the 'Net, or by phone), and inspiring seminars for Confident Women!, as well as giving presentations or seminars in schools.
While Monique's business has a Web site, it hasn't been a very effective sales tool. But Monique overcame the problem of marketing Confident Girls! with patience and a trust that the news about the good work she's doing would spread by word-of-mouth.
Monique feels that her optimism, enthusiasm, curiosity, and sense of fun have contributed most to her business' success.
