Heather Kraty
Heather Kraty, of Island Cowgirl Jewelry, graduated from NY's Fashion Institute of Technology. She had grown tired of living in the city and decided to go on a week's vacation to the island of St. Martin in the Caribbean. Heather ended up staying for a year, selling her jewelry on the beach and working her way up to selling to stores on the island. She spent many years in the Islands as well as in Miami, which is where the "Island" comes from for Island Cowgirl.
Heather originally started selling her jewelry to local galleries. Nowadays, she concentrates on doing wholesale shows and sending out catalogs to stores. Furthermore, she also sends out press kits to any magazines that may be a good fit for her work.
Heather lives out west now and has always loved all things that are western. She started her popular western niche by putting a lot of hearts and horseshoes combined with leather on her work. She also has a separate niche of "island" themed things which sell well in seaside resort areas. Her newest niche is doggie jewelry mostly because of her constant companion Dougal, an Old English Sheepdog. Moreover, a few months ago she started a retail line of Memory Beads.
